Cooking eggs in the instant pot is the easiest way to cook the perfect eggs every single time, and is mostly hands off. Get a dozen boiled eggs in a snap!

This is the best method I have ever used for perfect hard boiled eggs. Gone are the days of guessing when your eggs are done and perfect and not over or under cooked!
I originally began cooking hard boiled eggs using the 5-5-5 method which is just 5 minutes to come to pressure, 5 minutes cook time, and 5 minutes natural release, but have found that my eggs are just a TAD overdone at 5 minutes, so I do a 4 minute cook and natural release time. So, 5-4-4 I suppose!
I then throw all the eggs into an ice water bath to stop the cooking process immediately.
If you like a runny egg (runny yolks in the center aka soft boiled eggs you’ll need even less time – however, if you are making egg salad or deviled eggs you will need eggs that are cooked fully.

How to store hard boiled eggs
Unpeeled eggs can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Peeled eggs can be kept about 3 days. Place a damp paper towel in with peeled hard boiled eggs to keep them moist.
Both peeled and unpeeled should be stored in an airtight container.
Can you freeze hard boiled eggs?
Yes, and also no. The whites get rubbery and gross, but you can freeze just the egg yolk if you really must freeze eggs and either use or discard the egg white.
How long can boiled eggs sit out?
A max of 2 hours at room temperature. You don’t want them to get warm (icky bacteria).
If you are making deviled eggs, set your plate over a bowl of ice water or ice to keep them fresher longer.
What is the difference between brown eggs and white eggs?
Surprisingly, this is a common question! The answer is, no difference aside from the color of the shell. It depends on the breed and color of chicken that laid it. So, grab some eggs and get cooking!

Eggs. Older eggs are easier to peel, and that is still the case with Instant Pot Boiled Eggs. That said, most eggs you will get from the grocery store are going to be 7-10 days old when you buy them, so you should have no problem peeling!
Water. I use a cup of cold water for my 6qt instant pot.

- Electric Pressure Cooker aka Instant Pot.
- Egg trivet. If you don’t have an egg rack, you can use the rack that comes with your instant pot, no worries. Just ensure the eggs are in a single layer (you may need to reduce the number of eggs use to achieve this).

What is Natural Pressure Release – aka NPR?
A natural pressure release happens when the cooking time is over and the valve is left closed. The pressure decreases without doing anything. Your Instant Pot will automatically switch to the Keep Warm setting.
As soon as it switches to Keep Warm the pressure will begin to drop and will release the pressure by itself. You’ll know it’s done when the pin drops!
What is Quick Release?
Quick Release: this means to let the Instant Pot release pressure naturally for a few minutes. After the time has elapsed, switch the valve to “venting” to quickly release any remaining pressure. The pressure will release to a point where the pin drops, and you can open the lid.

Gather your instant pot, a dozen large eggs, and an egg trivet/rack or steamer basket.
Place the rack in the instant pot and add the fresh eggs, and 1 cup water
Attach the lid and set the steam valve to seal.
Set the pot to cook at high pressure for 4 minutes.
When the time ends, allow the instant pot to sit for 4 minutes, then do a quick release.
Remove the eggs from the pot and for best results, place in an ice bath for 4 minutes.
Peel eggs. See? these peel perfectly!
